SFC Floyd E. Lake was born August 10, 1963 in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Floyd enlisted in the Army in 1988, where he served four years and then joined the U.S. Virgin Islands Army National Guard. In 2004, he moved from being a logistics coordinator with the Guard to joining the National Guard Bureau in Virginia. In 2006, he was deployed to Iraq. Floyd was killed on January 20, 2007 when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter he was in crashed in Baghdad, Iraq. He was proud of his health and fitness, winning many fitness awards but he was best known as a dedicated father who deeply loved his children.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, and 5 children. Linda attended a Survivors of Heroes Retreat in 2018.
